Sahar Tabar, an Iranian Instagrammer, gained attention in 2017 for her extreme photos, allegedly resulting from over 50 surgeries. She clarified that her goal was not to resemble Angelina Jolie, but to create artistic photos using makeup and editing. After her fame grew, she was arrested in 2019 on charges of “corruption” and “blasphemy” and sentenced to 10 years in prison. She was released after 14 months, amid protests in Iran.
Sahar later admitted many of her photos were digitally altered and expressed that people should be free to look how they choose.
